Senate approves consent‑calendar bills and honors Provo sesquicentennial and speech winners

The Utah Senate adopted committee reports and advanced a broad consent calendar, approving multiple bills by unanimous or recorded voice vote and completing routine floor business before more detailed debates later in the day.

Clerk Kelly Peterson read communications from the House and several standing committee reports assigning bills to committees. On the consent calendar, the Senate recorded unanimous passage of House Bill 61 (motor‑vehicle registration amendment allowing electronic signatures) with 26 ayes and 3 absent; House Bill 215 (vehicle registration affidavit changes) and House Bill 208 (two‑year renewal for permanent disabled placards) were also approved and returned to the House for final enrollment. Senate Bill 154 (transfer of water‑rights reporting) was presented and sent forward by voice vote.

During the session the Senate also made multiple recognitions. Mayor Sarah Billings of Provo addressed the body and the chamber read a citation honoring Provo’s sesquicentennial (1849–1999). The Senate recognized winners of the American Freedom Festival speech contest, inviting Rachel Swim and Megan Gelter to the floor and commending their speeches.

The Senate then moved from the consent calendar to third reading business and proceeded to a series of floor amendments and debates on select bills.
