During its Feb. 5 floor session the Utah Senate considered and advanced a range of committee reports and bills. Committee chairs reported favorable recommendations on multiple measures; the Senate adopted the committee reports and moved items to the appropriate calendars.
Votes and procedural outcomes of note:
• House Bill 42 (trade and business name amendments) received 26 aye votes, no nays and three absent, and was returned to the House for enrollment and filing. • House Bill 222 (revised corporation act amendments) received 26 ayes, no nays and three absent and will be returned to the House because the Senate amended it. • First Substitute House Bill 10 (driver provisions) passed the Senate 27–1 (detailed separately). • House Bill 30 (Center for Landscape Water Management) and House Bill 190 (Medicaid choice certificate) carried fiscal notes and were placed on the third‑reading table to allow further appropriations review. HB 30 carried a fiscal note of $250,000 and HB 190 a fiscal note of $430,000 as reported on floor documents. • House Bill 197 (Cedar Mountain Initiative appropriation) was placed on the third‑reading calendar after a roll call (24 aye, 1 nay, 4 absent). • House Bill 200 (Water Commissioner amendments) was placed on the third‑reading calendar (26–0 recorded on the floor).
The body also recognized visiting groups in the gallery, including the Utah Dental Association and student groups, and presented certificates to emergency‑response trainees. The Senate adjourned and will reconvene Monday at 10:00 a.m.
