The Utah Senate on Feb. 4, 1999 advanced several House bills with limited floor debate and adopted a Rules Committee report assigning multiple measures to standing committees.
House Bill 42, described on the floor as clarifying trade and business name rules and exempting depository institutions from certain naming requirements, was read and the Senate moved it to the third-reading calendar after the clerk announced it had received 26 ayes and no nays, with three senators absent.
House Bill 222, relating to amendments to the Revised Corporation Act (including service on a registered agent and clarifying appeals through the Administrative Procedures Act), was likewise placed on the third-reading calendar after the Senate recorded 26 ayes and no nays and three absences.
Earlier in the session, the Rules Committee report was adopted and a series of bills and resolutions were assigned to committees including education, natural resources and agriculture, human services, judiciary, revenue and taxation, state and local affairs, transportation and public safety. Committee chair L. Stephen Poulton presented that report to the body.
The Senate adjourned the day's session until 10 a.m. Friday.
