Senate approves a slate of bills Feb. 23; several measures sent to House
Summary
On Feb. 23 the Utah Senate passed multiple bills — including House Bill 204 on judicial information to voters, Senate Bill 234 on penalties for offenses against police service animals, and Substitute Senate Bill 8 — and placed others on consent or circled them for amendment. The Utah State Senate moved a package of bills on Feb. 23, 2000, advancing several measures to the House and recording additional committee and journal actions.
On the consent calendar the Senate approved House Bill 204 (judicial information to voters), a measure to add judge citations and sanctions to voter information materials; the bill was sent back to the House for its consideration. Senate Bill 234, which increases penalties and restitution for injuries to police service animals and addresses obstruction of service animals, passed on third reading and will be transmitted to the House.
Substitute Senate Bill 8 (investigation of polygamous activity) passed by roll call. The Senate also considered and circled SJR 6 (notification timing for vetoed bills) and temporarily circled several bills to allow submission or preparation of amendments, including second substitute Senate Bill 186 (redevelopment agency tax increment changes) and substitute Senate Bill 1 45 (notary public amendments), which passed to the House after amendment.
Other bills advanced included substitute Senate Bill 238 (personnel management act amendments) and substitute Senate Bill 172 (sales and use tax modification). Several standing committee reports were adopted and referred bills were placed on the calendar or assigned to Rules for further consideration.
