Senate grants staff extra compensation, hears governor praise and adjourns

On the final night of the 2001 session the Utah Senate voted to give each Senate staff member 16 additional hours of compensation, heard remarks from the governor praising the session’s achievements, and then adjourned sine die.

Senator Bev Evans moved that each member of the Senate staff receive an additional 16 hours of compensation at established rates; the motion passed on a voice vote and senators publicly thanked staff, pages and interns for their work over the session.
The chamber then received brief remarks from the governor, who praised the leadership and highlighted items he expected the session to be remembered for, including the start of State Capitol renovation, funding for the Legacy Parkway, growth in engineering and computer-science graduates, and advances in applied-technology education and accountability.
With final thanks and acknowledgments to leadership, staff and spouses, a senator moved to "adjourn, sign and die." The motion passed on a voice vote and the Senate adjourned sine die.
The Senate also appointed small delegations to advise the governor and the House that the Senate had completed its business and directed staff to certify the journal and prepare bound copies of the record of proceedings for the 2001 legislature.
