Senate moves multiple bills to third reading and forwards several to the House
Summary
On Feb. 21 the Utah Senate placed a slate of bills on the third-reading calendar or transmitted them to the House, advancing measures on retirement corrections, procurement changes, sales-tax streamlining and telecom taxation, and tabling two bills with fiscal notes for third-reading consideration.
The Utah Senate used much of its Feb. 21 floor time to advance several bills to third reading and to transmit others to the House for consideration.
Among the bills moved to third reading or passed on concurrence were: SB 85 (public-safety retirement exception correcting a statutory omission), SB 166 (mobile-home residency and disclosure provisions), SB 202 (confidentiality of tax information for aviation and fuel statistics), SB 213 (technical corrections for taxation of telephone corporations), SB 214 (creation of a telecom-taxation task force and a one-year moratorium on a $1 monthly local cell-phone tax), and SB 74 (authorization to participate in a multistate streamlined sales-tax project). House bills that advanced included HB 211 (teacher tuition-waiver program) and HB 245 (authorizing reverse auctions under the procurement code) (multiple floor segments summarized).
Clerks announced roll-call results on many measures, and the Senate adopted committee reports and motions to place bills on the appropriate calendars. The body also agreed to table HB 211 and HB 284 on third in order to resolve outstanding fiscal notes (SEG 2896–2906). The floor concluded with a motion to adjourn until 9 a.m. the next day.
