Votes at a glance: Utah Senate passes package of bills on Jan. 31, 2001
Summary
The Utah State Senate on Jan. 31 advanced and passed a slate of bills across criminal justice, taxation, transportation and administrative policy, including SB 56 (DUI amendments), SB 111 (conflict-of-interest investigations), SB 22 and HB 205 (reinsurance assessment). The Utah State Senate convened Jan. 31 and took final action on a series of bills, adopting legislation on DUI penalties, conflict-of-interest investigations, tax measures tied to tribal accommodations and several House bills on administrative funding and regulation.
Among the bills the Senate passed: Senate Bill 56 (DUI penalty amendments) passed by roll call 20–0 and will be transmitted to the House; Senate Bill 111 (conflict-of-interest investigations into allegations of child abuse or neglect) passed 21–0; Senate Bill 22 (a tax measure tied to the Navajo Nation economic package) passed 23–0; and Substitute Senate Bill 114 (sales/use tax treatment for tribal public accommodations) passed 22–1. House Bill 205 (employers reinsurance fund special assessment) passed 22–0 with a sunset set for Jan. 1, 2005, and House Bills 207 and 41 also passed on the floor and will be referred to the House for signature.
Several other measures and committee reports were adopted or circled for further consideration, including appropriations and education-related bills placed on second- or third-reading calendars. The Senate also approved changes to UDOT settlement-approval thresholds in Senate Bill 105 (which passed 19–2), adjusting the levels at which the department may execute or must seek additional approvals for settlement agreements.
