Senate honors Rep. James V. Hansen with resolution and remarks

On Feb. 1 the Senate considered House Concurrent Resolution 4, honoring Congressman James V. Hansen for his years of public service. The resolution recounts Hansen’s long record—service in the state legislature, as Speaker of the Utah House, and later in the U.S. House of Representatives where he held senior committee assignments.
Senator Steele and many colleagues introduced and read the resolution on the floor. Senator Steele moved that the body resolve into a Committee of the Whole to hear Congressman Hansen, who then addressed the Senate, thanked members for their support and reflected on his public service. Multiple senators offered tributes emphasizing Hansen’s work on natural resources, Hill Air Force Base, ethics and bipartisanship. Under suspension of the rules, the Senate passed HCR 4 by recorded vote, 28–0, and will return the signed resolution to the House.
Representative Hansen’s remarks emphasized public service, bipartisanship and the seriousness of national security challenges; several senators noted personal service connections and praised Hansen’s assistance on local projects.
Outcome: HCR 4 passed the Senate 28–0 under suspension of the rules and will be signed by the President in open session and returned to the Speaker.
