Ramsey adopts ordinance restricting Madison Avenue parking during school hours

The Ramsey Borough Council voted Dec. 11 to adopt Ordinance 14-2024, which restricts parking on the north side of Madison Avenue near Tisdale School during school hours.
Councilwoman Jane Woods presented the ordinance and said the Ramsey Police Traffic Division — following a review by Sergeant Canonico — recommended limiting parking to the south side of Madison Avenue between Island, Park Avenue and Franklin Turnpike between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on days when school is in session. "This ordinance does not allow parking on the North Side Of Madison Avenue between Island, Park Avenue, and Franklin Turnpike between the hours of 8AM to 4PM during days that school is in session," Woods said during final reading.
Council opened a public hearing for the final consideration of the ordinance; no members of the public spoke on the item during the three calls for comment. The council then took a roll-call vote; members present recorded affirmative votes and the ordinance was adopted. The borough clerk was directed to publish the title of the ordinance in the official newspaper in accordance with law.
The council said the amendment responds to multiple complaints and safety concerns, particularly in fall and winter when leaves and snow can further constrict roadway widths.
Next steps: the borough clerk will publish the ordinance title and notice in the official newspaper as required by the Open Public Meetings Law and borough code.
