Utah Senate advances dozens of House bills, sending many to third reading with strong support

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah State Senate convened Feb. 3 and advanced a broad package of House bills to the third-reading calendar or the consent calendar, recording predominantly unanimous approvals for routine and technical measures.
Senate President opened the session and after prayers and the Pledge the body took up communications and committee reports from the House. The chamber adopted committee reports by voice vote and placed numerous bills on the second- and third-reading calendars or the consent calendar.
Among the measures approved for further consideration: House Bill 10 (state highway system changes), which the sponsor described as formalizing transfers of highway jurisdiction and renumbering affected routes; the Senate recorded a unanimous vote of the 24 senators present and ordered it returned to the House for signature. House Bill 16, an amendment to life-insurance law clarifying that groups formed solely to purchase life insurance are not permitted, passed third reading with a recorded 26-0 vote.
