Senate approves transfer to protect Range Creek site, cutting a museum appropriation

The Utah Senate on Sept. 15 approved Substitute House Bill 4,001 to provide funding intended to protect the Range Creek site from trespass, theft and vandalism.
Senator Blackham, floor sponsor of the House substitute, explained the measure reduces a $200,000 appropriation to the University of Utah Museum of Natural History by $50,000 (ongoing) and transfers an additional $102,000 in one-time money to the Department of Natural Resources to support security and preservation efforts at Range Creek. "What this bill does is takes care of some of the security needs out there at Ranch Creek to make sure that we preserve the site," Blackham said.
Under suspension of the rules the Senate considered and passed the substitute bill; the floor proceedings show roll-call activity and preparations for enrollment and presidential signature as the chamber arranged for transmittal back to the House and eventual enrollment.
The bill will be enrolled and returned to the House for transmittal to the governor for signature.
