Senate honors Delta Airlines as Salt Lake City hub expands; CEO joins session

The Utah State Senate on Feb. 16 passed first substitute Senate Concurrent Resolution 9, honoring Delta Air Lines for expanding its Salt Lake City hub and for contributions to the state's economy.
Senator Dan Eastman introduced the resolution, which cites Delta's hub realignment, the addition of daily flights and destinations at Salt Lake City International Airport and the airline's sponsorship role in the 2002 Winter Olympics. After reading the resolution into the record, the Senate resolved into a Committee of the Whole to hear from Delta executives.
Delta Chief Executive Gerald Grinstein thanked the Senate and state and local officials for support and highlighted the company's investment and job creation in Utah, saying the Salt Lake hub "is a wonderful hub to operate" and that the airline "expect[s] to continue that growth in Salt Lake City." Scott Yohe, senior vice president of governmental affairs, and other Delta representatives also attended and were introduced to the Senate.
Under suspension of the rules, Senator Eastman moved final passage. The clerk recorded the vote: first substitute SCR 9 received 25 yes votes, 0 nay votes, with 4 members absent. The resolution passes the Senate and was referred to the House for its consideration.
