Senate returns voter-information bill to Rules committee amid duplication concerns

Senate Bill 110, titled "protection of certain voter information," was the subject of a brief floor exchange in which Senator Hilliard described the measure as intended to supplement existing protections for judges and voter information but then concluded the provision duplicated current law.

"This is the bill to correct all the mistakes that Senator Beatty made when he was up here," Senator Hilliard said, adding that subsequent review showed the subject already had another provision of law giving the protection sought. Hilliard moved that the Senate strike the enacting clause of SB110 and send the bill back to the Rules Committee.

After no further interest on the bill, the Senate adopted the motion. President Valentine recorded that the enacting clause of SB110 was stricken and the bill would be filed with Rules. No final vote on the merits of SB110 occurred on the floor; the action was procedural and returned the measure for additional committee consideration.
