Senate honors searchers who located Laurie Hacking and presents certificates to participating agencies

The Utah Legislature adopted SCR 3 to honor the law‑enforcement officers, forensic teams and volunteers who participated in the painstaking search that located the remains of Laurie Hacking at the Salt Lake Valley Solid Waste Facility.
Senator Hilliard presented the resolution describing the scale and difficulty of the operation: more than two months of coordinated searches using specially trained cadaver dogs, landfill employees and volunteer teams. The resolution lists participating agencies, including the Salt Lake City Police Department, the State Bureau of Investigation, the Utah Highway Patrol, county sheriff’s offices and many municipal police departments; it also recognizes the Salt Lake Valley Solid Waste Facility and volunteers who aided the effort.
Senators invited representatives of participating agencies to the floor; certificates of appreciation were presented to those departments and individuals who were present. Sponsor remarks emphasized that the search was unusually difficult because of the volume of material processed daily at the landfill and credited searchers with providing closure to the family.
Under suspension of the rules the resolution was read for second and third time and approved by roll call (27 yea, 0 nay, 2 absent) and will be transmitted to the House.
