Senate moves to override governor's veto on Senate Bill 70
Summary

The Utah Senate on Feb. 28 followed constitutional procedure after receiving a written veto from the governor on Senate Bill 70 (waste-disposal amendments). The Senate entered the governor's objections into the Senate Journal and proceeded to reconsider the measure.
Senator Knudson (S21) made a motion to override the veto. The Senate proceeded to a roll-call vote on the motion to override; after the roll call the presiding officer announced, "The veto has been overridden in the Senate." The chamber then directed communications to the House advising that the Senate voted to override the veto, as required by Article VII, Section 8 of the Utah Constitution.
The Senate also noted the constitutional requirement to reconsider a vetoed bill and recorded the required entries on the journal. The clerk later corrected the record regarding related earlier votes (the motion to enter the governor's objections was moved and adopted). The Senate prepared required communications to the House about the override and appointed conference committees where needed for other measures.
