The Utah State Senate on Nov. 7, 2007 confirmed two appointments sent by Gov. John M. Huntsman Jr.: Reid R. Erickson to the Quality Growth Commission, term to April 15, 2011, and Jerry Michael Houghton to the Title and Escrow Commission, term to June 30, 2009.
After the Senate dissolved its Committee of the Whole following Judge Connors’ remarks, the Secretary read additional governor communications transmitting the two commission appointments. Senator Hilliard moved to approve and confirm the appointments as read; with no debate the Senate proceeded to a roll-call vote.
The presiding officer announced the motion passed with 24 yes votes, 0 nay votes and five senators absent; the Secretary recorded the confirmations. The Senate then asked the previously named committee (Senators Butters, McCoy and Knudson) to meet with the governor’s representatives to determine if further business remained; the committee reported the governor’s business was complete.
The confirmations completed the primary business of the extraordinary session called by the governor to consider appointments. No amendments, conditions or dissent were recorded on the appointments in the transcript.
