Senate moves several bills forward; multiple measures passed or placed for third reading

The Utah Senate on Feb. 26 advanced a slate of bills: several early bills were transmitted for signature, committee reports were adopted, and a group of House and Senate bills were placed on the third-reading calendar or the consent calendar. Key policy bills will return for final consideration.
The Utah State Senate handled routine floor business and advanced multiple bills on Feb. 26, 2009, adopting committee reports and placing a number of measures on the second- and third-reading calendars or transmitting them for signature.
Clerk announcements early in the session reported passage and transmission for signature of several measures, including Senate Bill 127 and a substitute for Senate Bill 135, and that Senate Bill 158 (Child Support, Cash Medical Support) had passed and been signed for the President (SEG 001–008). The clerk also reported that the House had adopted the joint conference committee report dated Feb. 26 and passed House Bill 51 (exemption for alcoholic beverage manufacturing license) and concurred in Senate amendments to House Bill 102 (false vehicle title and registration penalties) (SEG 012–023).
The Rules Committee directed first-reading bills to standing committees and the body adopted committee reports that sent many bills to the second-reading calendar or the consent calendar (SEG 045–066; SEG 078–123). By voice and roll-call votes the Senate placed measures such as House Bill 69 (Guardian ad litem amendments), House Bill 32 (agency rulemaking regarding criminal penalties), House Bill 114 (abortion litigation trust account), House Bill 154 (State Construction Registry Amendment) and others on later calendars for further action (SEG 193–243; SEG 377–616; SEG 359–376; SEG 1241–1365).
Several bills were recorded as passed on roll call or voice vote and will proceed through enrollment or further readings as noted by the clerk. Specific vote tallies and committee placements were read into the record as the session proceeded.
The Senate also handled floor housekeeping motions, including suspending rules to continue work on Senate bills and adjusting the session schedule to allow more time for business (SEG 1474–1481).
