Utah Senate Consents to Multiple Gubernatorial Appointments in Special Session
Summary
Following committee recommendations and a waiver of a statutory waiting period, the Utah Senate consented to a slate of gubernatorial appointments including Danny R. McConkie (Transportation Commission), Stanley B. Parish and Craig E. Coleman (education boards), James Olsen, and others.
During its sixth extraordinary session on Nov. 3, 2009, the Utah State Senate consented to a package of gubernatorial appointments covering transportation, applied-technology governance, education and health‑related boards.
The reading clerk transmitted nominations that included Danny R. McConkie to the Transportation Commission; Stanley B. Parish to the Utah College of Applied Technology (UCAT) Board of Trustees; Craig E. Coleman to replace Richard Moss on the Utah State Board of Education for District 3; Todd Daniel Trenton to the Utah Comprehensive Health Insurance Pool Board of Directors; and James Olsen to the UCAT Board. Committee chairs reported unanimous or favorable recommendations from the Transportation, Public Utilities and Technology Confirmation Committee and the Education Confirmation Committee.
Senator Stevenson reported that the Transportation Confirmation Committee was unanimous in recommending Danny R. McConkie. The Education Confirmation Committee likewise recommended Stanley Parish and Craig E. Coleman unanimously as qualified to serve. To act on a supplemental set of nominations submitted after the statutory waiting period, the Senate voted unanimously to waive the 15‑day requirement. The full Senate then consented by roll call to the slate with 27 yea, 0 nay and 2 absent.
With those confirmations completed, the Senate concluded the business filed for the special session, asked the committee to notify the governor that work was finished, and adjourned.
