Senate honors Deer Valley Resort and Utah tourism officials for national recognition

The Senate recognized Deer Valley Resort for being ranked the top resort in North America for a third consecutive year and presented a commendation to resort and Utah Office of Tourism officials.
On Feb. 9, 2010, the Utah State Senate recognized Deer Valley Resort and representatives of the Utah Office of Tourism for recent national awards. Senator Jenkins presented a certificate commemorating Deer Valley’s third consecutive year as the top-ranked resort in North America; Bob Wheaton, Deer Valley’s president and general manager, and other resort representatives accepted the recognition on the floor.
Senators praised Deer Valley’s awards in dining, lodging and resort rankings, and highlighted the resort’s history hosting major events, including the 2002 Winter Olympics and World Championship competitions. Utah Office of Tourism staff introduced on the floor included Lee Vanderesch (Managing Director), Tracy Crawford (Deputy Director, Communications and Operations), David Williams (Deputy Director, Marketing), Clayton Scrivner (Media Relations) and Scott Hardy (Calendar Design). The floor remarks also noted the Utah Scenic Calendar’s design honors and a cited return-on-investment figure for state marketing.
"For the third consecutive year, Deer Valley Resort was named the number 1 resort overall in North America," Senator Jenkins said while presenting the recognition. Bob Wheaton thanked the Senate and acknowledged tourism’s contribution to the state's economy.
The Senate also invited a student delegation from Mainland China (Xijiang/Yong) visiting Utah to stand and be recognized during the same session.
