Senate gives unanimous consent to slate of gubernatorial appointments

During the Aug. 3 extraordinary session, the Utah Senate consented to a list of gubernatorial appointments to state boards and commissions, approving the slate 27-0 with two absent. Rowley to replace Gary Ott on the State Records Committee; the reappointment of John Lex Alexander Hemphill to the State Records Committee; the reappointment of Stephen R. Richards to the Purchasing from Persons with Disabilities Advisory Board; the reappointment of Gary R. Hancock to the Real Estate Commission; the appointment of Louis James Cananolas to the School and Institutional Trust Lands Board of Trustees to replace John Ferry; and the appointment of M. Kurt Howell to the Defined Contribution Risk Adjuster Board of Directors to replace Earl F. Hearst.
Senator Hilliard moved to approve the appointments as read. The President announced the roll call result as 27 yea, 0 nay, 2 absent, a unanimous consent of those present. Governor Herbert's communication cited Utah Code Annotated provisions as the statutory basis for the appointments and requested timely consideration and confirmation.
The confirmations were routine advised-consent actions. The Senate then completed its scheduled business for the extraordinary session and proceeded to brief announcements and adjournment.
