Senate approves multiple bills on consent and third-reading calendars; committees report additional assignments

The Utah State Senate took routine actions that moved a number of measures forward, adopting the Rules Committee report and multiple standing-committee recommendations and approving several bills on the consent calendar.
Clerk and committee chairs reported House-passed measures and committee recommendations, including assignment of bills to standing committees. The Rules Committee Report was adopted, and Senator Dayton requested moving Senate Bill 206 from Government Operations to Education; the President assigned SB206 to Education at the sponsor’s request.
On the consent calendar the body approved items including Senate Bill 144 (County Purchasing Agent Amendment) and others that were recorded as passing and forwarded to the House for signature. Multiple first and second readings were handled in succession, and bills including House Bill 14 (Catastrophic Mental Health Coverage Sunset Act) were uncircled, presented and passed on the floor by recorded vote. The Senate completed its third-reading calendar items, recorded votes for numerous technical and policy bills and adjourned until 10 a.m. the following day after scheduling announcements about committee meetings and appropriations work.
Several measures were placed at the bottom of the third-reading calendar for later action; the body also adopted a package of committee reports that directs future committee consideration and floor scheduling.
