Utah Senate consents to governor's slate of board and commission appointments

The clerk read appointment letters transmitted by Governor Gary R. Herbert and the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, including nominees and reappointments for the Drinking Water Board, Radiation Control Board, Board of State History, Transportation Commission, Air Quality Board, Quality Growth Commission, Utah Housing Corporation Board of Trustees and many others. President noted one name was omitted from the read list because a confirmation committee requested a hearing.
Senator Hilliard moved to approve the list as read; he and other senators said the confirmation committee process would allow additional review where needed. Senator Valentine noted that an audit released the previous afternoon contained no indication that the nominee referred to as Mr. Granado knew of the events being reviewed, and both senators agreed it was appropriate to hold a committee hearing so the nominee could answer questions.
The Senate then recorded a roll call on the motion to adopt the appointment list; the clerk reported 28 yea votes, 0 nay, 1 absent and the motion carried. Senator Okerlund's committee notified the governor that the Senate had completed its business and the governor had no further items at that time. The Senate adjourned after brief announcements.
