Senate Unanimously Recognizes Pregnancy Care Centers; Rules Suspended for Final Passage

Salt Lake City — The Utah Senate gave expedited consideration to Senate Joint Resolution 21, a ceremonial resolution recognizing the work of pregnancy care centers across the state, and approved it after suspending the rules.
Sen. Adams, sponsor of the resolution, outlined the statewide network of centers — naming centers in Salt Lake City, Ogden, St. George, Logan, Brigham City and Moab — and enumerated services they provide, including pregnancy verification, peer counseling, fetal-development education, limited first-trimester ultrasounds, maternity supplies and hotlines. "Utah Pregnancy Centers are a nonprofit organization that strive to help women and teens and men and family members in crisis pregnancy situations," Adams said.
The resolution commends volunteers and staff and urges federal and state leaders to consider ways to assist pregnancy care centers while respecting their religious missions. Sen. Christensen and other senators voiced support. The body voted to suspend the rules, read the measure for second and third times, and then passed SJR21 by voice/roll call (26 yea, 0 nay, 3 absent). The resolution will be forwarded to the House for concurrence.
