Utah Senate approves multiple consent calendar measures, including business and licensing changes

The Utah Senate on Feb. 17 adopted several measures on its consent calendar by voice and unanimous floor action.
Senate Bill 256, which postpones parts of the recently revised LLC/Unincorporated Business Entities Act and extends an effective date from July 1, 2012, to July 1, 2013, passed on the consent calendar after sponsor remarks on the need for additional drafting time. The Senate recorded that SB256 received 23 yea votes and 0 nays.
House Bill 114, a massage-therapy licensing and definition bill presented by Senator Osman, passed unanimously and was signed by the president in open session for return to the House for the speaker’s signature. House Bill 295 (trademark-renewal revisions) similarly passed by voice vote with the Senate noting recorded yeas and no nays.
Other consent items included bills and committee-referred measures placed for second-reading and consent consideration; the rules committee and standing committees reported favorable recommendations which were adopted.
Most consent items were advanced with minimal floor debate; sponsors summarized the bills’ intent and the Senate adopted committee reports by voice vote.
Next step: the bills will be forwarded to the House or placed on further reading calendars for enrollment and the speaker’s signature as appropriate.
