Utah Senate clears multiple concurrence items, pauses to honor longtime Democratic staffer

The Utah State Senate moved quickly through a packed concurrence calendar on March 7, concurring with House changes on several measures and sending them back to the House for final processing.
Senator Bramble opened the session’s concurrence items with sixth substitute Senate Bill 161, pharmacy practice act revisions, and the Senate concurred with House amendments and approved final passage. Later roll calls recorded passage of Senate Bill 277 (municipal government authority) and first substitute Senate Joint Resolution 16 (recognizing the Hole in the Rock San Juan Mission Historic Trail). First substitute Senate Bill 178, which amended the Statewide Online Education Program to eliminate a sunset for the electronic high school and prohibit inducements for course enrollment, also passed after sponsors said House edits improved the bill.
The chamber paused its legislative work to resolve into a Committee of the Whole at Senator Romero’s request to hear party leaders and pay tribute to Todd Taylor, who died unexpectedly. Party leaders and senators from both sides of the aisle described Taylor’s decades of service and influence, and the Senate observed a moment of remembrance.
Other business on the floor included numerous second- and third-reading items and routine motions to circle or uncircle bills as the chamber set its order for final consideration later in the week. Several measures were placed on the third-reading calendar for final votes.
The Senate will return concurrence items to the House for signature where required and proceed with final readings according to the published calendar.
