SALT LAKE CITY — Senators voted to concur with a House amendment to SB20 on Feb. 2 that removes a requirement that some presidential candidates hold a certificate of nomination when they reside outside Utah.
Senator 9 described the amendment as removing an unnecessary certificate requirement that would not be beneficial to out‑of‑state presidential candidates; the sponsor said the change means a presidential candidate residing outside the state will not have to have a certificate of nomination. After brief discussion, the Senate passed SB20 by roll call (26 yay, 0 nay, 3 absent) and will return the bill to the House for the speaker’s signature.
