Utah Senate Consents to Multiple Gubernatorial Appointments; Ivy Eastbrook Named USTAR Director

The Utah State Senate on May 21, 2014, consented to a list of gubernatorial appointments to state boards and authorities and later resolved into a Committee of the Whole to hear remarks from Ivy Eastbrook, the newly confirmed executive director of the Utah Science, Technology and Research Governing Authority (USTAR).
Gov. Gary R. Herbert transmitted a package of appointments for timely consideration, naming nominees to the Health Facilities Committee, Health Data Committee, Utah Arts Council, Great Salt Lake Advisory Council, Air Quality Board, Drinking Water Board, the School Institutional Trust Lands Board of Trustees, the State Money Management Council, and others. The clerk read the list into the record and Senator Hilliard moved to approve the named appointments; the Senate gave unanimous consent in a roll-call vote.
The Senate Economic Development and Workforce Services Confirmation Committee reported favorably on Ivy B. Eastbrook, recommending her by a 3-0 vote; Senator Aaron Osman and other committee members spoke in support. The Senate resolved into a Committee of the Whole so Eastbrook could address senators. Eastbrook thanked the Senate for the nomination and confirmation, saying she was "very excited to get started" and that she looked forward to working with members.
After Eastbrook’s remarks the Committee of the Whole was dissolved; the Senate instructed its appointed members to notify the governor that the Senate had concluded its business.
