Senate adopts committee reports, several consent items and introduces bills; session adjourns
Summary
The Senate adopted standing committee reports and the consent calendar, read and referred a batch of House bills to Rules, introduced a set of new Senate bills for referral, and set time-certain items before adjourning to reconvene the next morning.
During an afternoon floor session on Feb. 18, the Utah Senate completed routine business: it received communications from the House, adopted standing committee reports, moved a set of bills to the consent calendar and referred a batch of newly read House bills to the Rules Committee.
Clerks and committee chairs reported favorable recommendations on a variety of measures (for example HB34, HB83, SB215, SB216, HB84, SB225, HB188, HB195). The Rules Committee recommended assignments for other bills, and the body adopted the Rules Committee report. Several Senate bills were introduced for first reading and referred to Rules (including bills affecting Workforce Services, DEQ, school grading, autism provider licensing, local health departments and track crossing bars operations).
Senators set time-certain scheduling for other items (for example first substitute H.B. 199 was set for Wednesday at 3:30 p.m., a brief citation was scheduled for Thursday at 10:15 a.m.) and created a rules meeting. After concluding scheduled bills for the day, the Senate adjourned until 10 a.m. the following morning.
