Senators file wide-ranging bill package as session begins; rules referral noted
Summary
At the session’s opening the Senate introduced dozens of bills and resolutions spanning budgets, tax, education, water, natural resources, and other policy areas; President Niederhauser said bills would be referred to the Rules Committee.
Senators introduced a broad set of legislation at the opening of the 2015 Utah legislative session, filing bills that address the budget, taxation, education, natural resources, public safety and other policy areas.
The list announced on the floor included SB 1 (public education base budget amendments), SB 5 (natural resources, agriculture and environmental quality base budget), SB 6 (executive offices and criminal justice base budget), SB 83 (Medicaid expansion proposal) and many others across policy areas. President Niederhauser noted that the bills will be referred to the Rules Committee for assignment.
Sponsors for each file were announced from the floor, and the clerk recorded the slate of bill numbers and short titles. President Niederhauser also indicated SB 87 (environmental protection amendments) among later mentions and reminded the body that referral procedures and committee assignments will follow the chamber’s established rules.
Floor time closed with additional routine motions, a time-certain set for a music recognition, and a recess until the afternoon session when committee work and referrals were scheduled to continue.
