Utah Senate confirms governor’s slate of appointments in tenth extraordinary session

President Wayne Niederhauser announced the result: "With 28 yays, 0 nays, and 1 being absent, the Senate has consented to the governor's appointment." The confirmations were for a mix of new appointments and reappointments to state boards and local water-conservancy district boards.
The appointments read into the record included, among others, Scott Raymond Nolan and Vance Checketts to the Governor's Economic Development Coordinating Council; Grant Thomas and Charles Brett Hopkins to the Utah Athletic Foundation board of directors; Jennifer Mayen Yim to the Board of Pardons and Parole; Claudia P. Jarrett and Alicia Lynn Calthrop to the Board of Parks and Recreation; Heidi Prokop to the Utah Arts Council board; and a series of reappointments to multiple water conservancy district boards (names as read by the clerk). The reading of the governor's letter noted the nominations were transmitted under Utah Code 67-1-1 and 67-1-2.
President Niederhauser told senators that he, the majority leader and the minority leader had agreed to waive the statutory 15-day notification requirement so the appointments could be considered during the extraordinary session. The clerk conducted a roll call on the approval motion; multiple senators answered "Aye" as the clerk called the roll. The president congratulated those confirmed once the tally was announced.
There was no recorded debate on the individual appointments during the session. The confirmations were presented as a single omnibus consent approval; the motion to adopt the 2015 general-session rules for the extraordinary session had been adopted earlier that day to govern proceedings.
The Senate adjourned shortly after the confirmations.
