Senate consents to governor's slate of board and commission appointments

The Utah Senate used the extraordinary session to give advice and consent to multiple gubernatorial appointees to state boards and commissions.

Governor Gary R. Herbert transmitted appointments to the Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission, the Board of Pardons and Parole, the Utah Communications Authority, the Youth Parole Authority, and the Title and Escrow Commission, among others. The Senate Business and Labor Confirmation Committee reported favorable recommendations for several nominees, including Soph(ia) DeCaro for the Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission and Randall R. Stewart for the Title and Escrow Commission.

Senator Hilliard moved that the Senate give advice and consent to the names read into the record. By roll call, the Senate recorded 21 ayes, 0 nays, with 8 members absent, and the body announced it had consented to the governor's appointees.

The communications read into the record included: Sofia/Sophia DeCaro (Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission), Denise M. Porter (reappointment to the Board of Pardons and Parole), Robert S. Yates (Pro Tem to Pardons and Parole), Lance Davenport (Utah Communications Authority), Kimberly C. Jensen (Youth Parole Authority), and Randall R. Stewart (Title and Escrow Commission). The Business and Labor Confirmation Committee notes and committee-chair comments were included for several of the names.

The Senate's consent was recorded by roll call and the presiding officer announced the results. Senators then directed staff to notify the governor's representative that the Senate had concluded its business for the extraordinary session.
