Utah Senate Confirms Camille Snyder to Second District Court

The Senate recorded the vote as having received 18 "yay" votes and 2 "nay" votes, and the motion carried. President Niederhauser formally congratulated "Judge Snyder" following the vote.
Judge-designate Camille Snyder addressed the Senate after confirmation. "I promise as I have in all of the interviews that I've been through ... to uphold the rule of law," she said, thanking Governor Herbert, committee members and senators for their support.
The confirmation follows a committee recommendation reported at its December 2017 meeting. The Senate also completed related procedural steps during the extraordinary session, including brief committee-of-the-whole proceedings and a return to the full Senate before Snyder's address.
The Senate's action is recorded as consent to the governor's appointment; the formal effective date of Snyder's service was not specified in the communications read to the Senate.
Next steps: Snyder will assume the judgeship vacated by Judge Brent West, whose retirement was noted in the nomination materials as taking effect on Dec. 29, 2017.
