Senate advances bill to make voter registration opt-out at DMV

"This bill takes our current opt-in voter registration program when someone renews their license and makes it an opt-out," Senator Henderson said, adding the bill includes provisions for party affiliation, privacy protections and coordination between the DMV and voter rolls so address changes are automatically updated.
Henderson moved the first substitute of Senate Bill 112 to final passage and the Senate proceeded to a roll-call vote. Senators answered as their names were called; after the vote the President recorded the outcome and the bill was carried forward on the Senate calendar.
The Senate did not debate detailed fiscal impacts on the floor during the recorded remarks. The bill’s sponsor said the changes are intended to modernize the registration process and reduce administrative inefficiencies.
