Senate recognizes fall prevention efforts, designates Fall Prevention Awareness Day

The Utah Senate unanimously advanced Senate Joint Resolution 5 recognizing statewide fall-prevention efforts and designating Sept. 22, 2018, as Fall Prevention Awareness Day. Senator Iwamoto presented the resolution and described the Utah Falls Prevention Alliance, a collaboration of public-health officials, emergency medical services, insurers and private partners that produced an awareness campaign, website and brochure.
Iwamoto acknowledged key leaders who helped form the alliance and develop materials: Sally Ayers of the Utah Department of Health; Michelle Macomber, CEO of the Utah Medical Association; Theresa Rivera, president and CEO of the Utah Health Information Network; and Robert Enns, executive director of the Utah Commission on Aging, who hosted the alliance website and reception. The senator said a luncheon was scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. in the Capitol Boardroom, underwritten primarily by Dave Gessel and the Utah Hospital Association.
The resolution recognizes the alliance’s work to coordinate care across providers and to raise awareness of older-adult falls in Utah. The Senate suspended rules and advanced the resolution on the floor during this session segment; those recognized in the gallery stood and were acknowledged.
