Senate confirms Brodie Kiesel to Sixth District Juvenile Court

The Utah State Senate confirmed Brodie Kiesel to serve as a judge on the Sixth District Juvenile Court after the Judicial Confirmation Committee reported a unanimous favorable recommendation. Kiesel appeared in the chamber with family and gave brief remarks thanking the Senate, naming family members present, and describing his background. He said he had served as a Sanpete County attorney, municipal prosecutor in Manti, and deputy Sanpete County attorney, had prosecutorial experience in the Sixth District, and had taught criminal law as an adjunct professor at Snow College. He pledged to “carefully consider facts presented” and apply the constitution and statute faithfully in his work on the juvenile bench.
The appointment was transmitted to the Senate by Governor Gary R. Herbert citing Article VIII, Section 8 of the Utah Constitution and Utah Code §78-10-101. The confirmation followed the committee’s hearing and vote; the floor recorded senators’ affirmative votes and the president congratulated Kiesel. Kiesel’s nomination had been vetted by the Sixth District confirmation committee, which reported being “very impressed with his qualifications.”
