Senate passes bill expanding scholarships for technical schools to include Snow College, USU Eastern and SLCC

Senate Bill 136, presented by Senator Grover, would extend scholarship eligibility to Snow College, Utah State University Eastern and Salt Lake Community College and direct institutions to target awards toward programs with workforce demand. Grover said the measure corrects last year’s exclusion of those institutions from a $1 million scholarship allocation and leaves funding decisions to the institutions’ boards of trustees.
"This is the bill that I've been running for. It provides scholarships for the technical schools," Grover said, adding that trustees decide priority training programs such as pipe welding or aeronautics.
The Senate recorded 28 yay votes, 0 nay votes and 1 being absent; the bill passed and will be sent to the House for consideration.
