Senate unanimously confirms two juvenile court judges, Jan and Galloway

The Utah State Senate on March 5 consented to two judicial appointments transmitted by the governor, confirming Annette Jan to the Third District Juvenile Court and Brian Galloway to the First District Juvenile Court.

Senators voted by roll call to confirm Jan after the Senate judicial confirmation committee reported a favorable recommendation. President announced the result as "27 yay votes, 0 nay votes, 2 being absent," and the Senate "consented to the governor's appointment of Judge Annette Jan." Jan spoke to the chamber after her confirmation, saying she was "so humbled and thrilled for this next opportunity" and introducing family and colleagues in the gallery.

Shortly afterward the Senate considered the governor's nomination of Brian Galloway. Senator Todd Wyler and Senator Hilliard described Galloway's experience as a public defender and work with juvenile courts. The Senate again recorded a roll-call result of "27 yay votes, 0 nay votes, 2 being absent" and consented to Galloway's appointment. Galloway addressed senators and their guests, thanking them and saying he would "do my very best to uphold the high standard of the judiciary here in the state of Utah."

Both confirmations were handled by motion and roll-call vote on the Senate floor and will be processed consistent with the state's enrollment and appointment procedures. The chamber then resolved briefly into a Committee of the Whole for the nominees to speak and introduce family members before returning to business.
