Senate sends modifications to COVID workers' compensation and volunteer first-responder pay to the House

The Utah Senate approved House Bill 5006, a measure that moves some COVID‑19 related workers' compensation matters into the occupational health code, better defines 'first responder' and establishes compensation rates for volunteer first responders.
Senator Colmore presented the bill, noting it revisits measures discussed in May and updates code placement and definitions. "What it does is it moves some of the worker compensation issues ... from the workers' compensation to the occupational health code," he said.
Senators had no questions on the floor, the sponsor waived summation, and the measure was adopted under suspension; the transcript records the bill as receiving 28 votes in favor. The bill will be returned to the House and carries statutory and administrative implementation steps to be administered by the appropriate agencies if the House concurs.
