Utah Senate honors PTA with concurrent resolution recognizing long volunteer history

Senators recognized the National Parent Teacher Association and the Utah PTA on Feb. 16, adopting Senate Concurrent Resolution 5 to honor the organizations’ history and role in family engagement in education. The chamber read the resolution on the floor and acknowledged past PTA presidents attending the session.
Senator Milner introduced past presidents and thanked the volunteers, saying the PTA ‘‘has helped generations of students improve student performance’’ and calling them ‘‘an example of how our parents and our families feel about participating and engaging in the education of our children.’’ The reading clerk recited the resolution, which notes the PTA’s founding history and encourages citizens to participate in children’s education.
Senator Milner moved to suspend the rules and called the question. The Senate approved SCR 5 by roll-call vote; the clerk recorded 25 yea, 0 nay, 4 absent, and the resolution was sent to the House for its consideration.
The recognition also included brief remarks from several senators who described PTA service as a pathway to civic involvement. Following the vote, senators invited the PTA members in the galleries to the front of the chamber for recognition.
