Senate approves canine grant program for small law‑enforcement agencies

Sen. Reby described first substitute SB111 as a grant program intended to help small agencies obtain and train canines for tasks including search-and-rescue, wildlife detection, tracking and cadaver detection. "This would be a valuable asset for some of our smaller agencies," Reby said on the floor.
Sen. Wyler, who had raised concerns in committee, told the chamber the sponsor made substantial changes to address those concerns and said he planned to vote aye. The Senate called the question and approved the bill by roll-call vote; the President announced it will be transmitted to the House for further consideration.
