The Bourbon County Commission voted Nov. 7 to approve a letter of support for SEK CAP Transportation’s grant application to continue the B2Go public transportation service, but declined to commit local matching funds at the same meeting.
Casey Brown, representing SEK CAP Transportation, told the commission the state and federal grant would cover about 70% of operations and that a full local match of $18,000 is required to operate a three‑day service; he asked the county for a commitment now for the application and explained actual funds would not be needed until the February–June 2026 window. "It is a letter of support if you choose to sign it," Brown said during his presentation.
Commissioner (Speaker 2) moved to approve the support letter; Speaker 1 seconded and the motion passed by voice vote. Commissioners and staff then discussed the availability of discretionary funds (the commission referenced a balance of roughly $70,000) and whether the county should pledge a specific dollar amount now or wait until the next budget cycle. Speaker 6 and others advised the SEK CAP representatives to return during budgeting if they require a firm funding commitment, and the commission agreed to table any donation amount until next week or until budget time.
The vote authorized only the support letter; no allocation of county funds was recorded. The commission asked SEK CAP Transportation to follow up during the budget process and to provide a clear dollar amount if they seek county funds.
What's next: SEK CAP Transportation will be asked to return with a budget request during the next commission budgeting session or otherwise confirm a requested local match amount at the follow-up meeting.
