South River adopts consent resolutions, hears grant awards and broadband plans

At its Dec. 9 meeting, the South River Borough Council adopted a series of consent resolutions covering routine administrative, financial and purchasing matters. The consent package listed a conditional appointment of a police officer (Resolution 3‑54), cancellations of small balances and stale checks, an authorization to purchase through state contracts, rejection of a problematic billing‑collection bid, and authorization for purchases such as radio dispatch furniture and a replacement Dodge Durango for borough operations.

Engineering and public‑works staff reported the borough received notice of a $506,913 grant from the New Jersey Department of Transportation for a local‑aid transportation project; design work and project planning were described as ongoing. Staff also discussed previous small stormwater assistance funding and noted limitations on future DEP funding for a related project.

Utility and administration staff said unidirectional flushing for the water system was completed and recommended no electric rate increase for 2025 under the annual power‑cost adjustment. The administration announced a planned Comcast Business agreement to run fiber optics into borough buildings (for business service) with a minimal cost differential; the council listed an authorization for a Comcast agreement among consent items.

Council adopted the listed consent resolutions by voice/roll call during the meeting; one council member abstained on a specific consent item, as recorded. The borough clerk’s office will post the adopted resolutions and provide formal copies of contracts and grant award notifications.
