The Falmouth Select Board appointed Gregory Baldwin to the Economic Development & Industrial Corporation (EDIC) and conducted a sequence of interviews for a Police Station Advisory Committee at its Dec. 2 meeting.
The board unanimously approved Baldwin’s appointment after a motion and second; two members announced abstentions because they currently serve on EDIC. Baldwin told the board he is enthusiastic about EDIC’s mission and cited interest in business development and workforce housing.
The Select Board then interviewed multiple candidates for the Police Station Advisory Committee. Applicants consistently emphasized the existing station’s deficiencies and the need to design a facility that supports officer safety and wellness. Retired chief George Sherrill described the current station as among the more substandard facilities he has seen and urged a larger gym and better spaces for fitness and decontamination. “Right off the bat, 21st-century policing is officer safety and wellness, and physical fitness,” Sherrill said.
Other candidates — including Ed Schwartz, James Morse, Tom Vose, Jerry Petomas, Boyd DeMello and Carissa April — cited construction or municipal procurement experience, facility-planning experience, or community and veteran service that they said would help shape the committee’s work. Applicants raised technical items such as climate-controlled evidence storage, infrastructure for body-worn camera systems, separate victim interview rooms and adequate locker-room support.
Board members indicated they will return to the advisory appointments and the Police Station Advisory Committee slate at subsequent meetings; one formal EDIC appointment occurred at the Dec. 2 meeting and was recorded with abstentions noted in the roll-call exchange.
