Falmouth Conservation Commission approves routine RDAs, schedules follow-ups on several coastal projects

The Falmouth Conservation Commission on Dec. 1 approved a slate of staff-recommended Requests for Determination of Applicability, voted to continue several hearings for revised plans, and closed multiple Notices of Intent for further deliberation or conditions.
Vice Chair Courtney Bird opened the remote meeting and reviewed public-participation rules under the Chapter 107 statutory extension for remote meetings. The commission approved the Nov. 6 and Nov. 13 meeting minutes by roll call.
Staff presenters (Alyssa and Jennifer) recommended negative determinations under state and local bylaws for several routine projects, including a guard shack at Chappaquoit Associates (staff recommended a Negative 3 under the state and Negative 2 under the bylaw), a bulkhead repair at Island Commoncorp, a retaining-wall and septic access at 67 Lake Shore Drive, water- and gas-main work at Pussett Avenue, and dock repairs for Nikitimar LLC. Commissioners moved, seconded and carried votes accepting staff recommendations on these RDAs.
The body handled an array of continuance requests and enforcement-order continuances for properties such as 8 Rice Street (Joe Hosford), 58158 Westwood Road (Strakosch Family Trust), and several others; most were continued to dates in December or January per applicant requests and staff guidance. The commission recorded recusals and abstentions where required.
Commissioners repeatedly emphasized pre-construction site visits and stronger on-site mitigation for projects where invasive-species removal and restoration were proposed, and they instructed applicants to submit revised plans that reflect staff comments. The meeting concluded with a reminder of a public open-house for prospective commission members and an announcement that the Quissett Harbor Preservation Trust extension request was withdrawn because the underlying permit was preserved by a recent permanent-extension statute.
The commission scheduled votes or follow-up site visits on several larger projects in subsequent meetings.
