Bourbon County commissioners used much of their Oct. 15 meeting to approve routine administrative business and hear operational updates from the county clerk.
The commission approved the consent agenda and minutes by voice vote. Commissioners appointed Eric Bailey as the county's voting delegate to the Kansas Association of Counties conference in Wichita in December. County Clerk (S2) announced the conference dates and asked the commission to designate a delegate.
On a utility item, the county heard that a new electronic flow-measurement meter is required. Staff reported a one-time installation fee and an ongoing monthly charge; after discussing a 15-year payment option, commissioners voted to pay the one-time fee rather than accept the long-term monthly plan.
The commission directed official electronic communications to be routed through the county clerk's email address and approved making Jan. 1, 2025, a county employee holiday. An insurance item was not ready and was tabled until next week.
County Clerk (S2) reminded residents that Oct. 15 was the final day to register for the 2024 general election, summarized early voting hours in the Commission Room, said ballots would begin mailing the next day, and noted an Oct. 29 deadline for mail-in ballot applications; a secure drop box will be set up outside the courthouse for ballot returns.
Votes at a glance: minutes approved (voice vote), Eric Bailey appointed voting delegate (voice vote), county to pay one-time meter installation fee (voice vote), electronic communications routed to clerk's email (voice vote), Jan. 1, 2025 designated a holiday (voice vote), insurance review tabled (no action recorded).
