The Bourbon County Commission voted Oct. 15 to approve two service contracts with Cassling (medical equipment service contractor) to inspect and perform preventive maintenance on the county's ultrasound and CT machines.
A commissioner described meetings with Freeman Health System representatives in Joplin and said the Cassling contracts cover travel, labor and preventive maintenance; the contracts also include required deletion of any patient databases on the devices. The amounts discussed in the meeting were $2,471 for the ultrasound inspection and $5,444 for the CT inspection and maintenance. The commission approved the contracts and directed the chair to sign, with funding to come from the county's equipment reserve fund.
Commissioners said the inspections and maintenance are required to verify equipment functioning and to support the county's efforts to keep local emergency-room imaging operational. One commissioner noted, "We have to delete that patient database," citing the legal requirement to remove patient information during service.
The commission did not record a motion to amend contract amounts or additional conditions in the transcript; the chair and staff will finalize contract signatures and payment from reserves.
