Senior center requests hold funding level after county changes meal payments

Deb Meadle, representing Bourbon County Senior Citizens, thanked commissioners for support and asked that county funding remain at current levels despite recent changes to how meal-preparation payments are routed.
Meadle said the program, which provides Meals on Wheels and monthly meal boxes to about 92 seniors and distributes food commodities to roughly 50 low-income families, had its county funding line reduced on the budget sheet she presented from 45.06 to 25.08 after the county began paying SEKAAA directly for meal preparation. She said the center will accept the current arrangement if meal quality remains acceptable but noted the change could affect future negotiating options for meal preparation contracts.
Meadle also said she is pursuing grants and seeking to stabilize an upper northwest wall of the senior center building and highlighted volunteer contributions that average about 150 hours per month.
Commissioners acknowledged receipt of the budget request and thanked Meadle for the update; no formal vote on next year’s funding occurred at the June 17 meeting.
