At its June 10 meeting, the Bourbon County Commission approved a series of routine administrative and fiscal items.
Consent agenda: Commissioners approved the consent agenda (minutes) by motion and voice vote.
K‑9 retirement and donation: The sheriff’s office presented a retired canine and a donated replacement dog from another county. The commission moved, seconded and approved the retirement agreement and acceptance of the donated animal; the chair signed the paperwork.
Audit engagement: The commission authorized Chairman Jim Harris to sign the engagement letter for Jared Gilmore & Phillips to perform the county’s fiscal‑year audit for the year ending Dec. 31, 2024.
Salary resolution: The commission approved Resolution 07‑24, the 2024 salary resolution for elected officials, based on auditors’ recommendation, and moved to adopt it.
Fireworks permits: The county clerk presented three fireworks vendor permits (two for Jake’s Fireworks at Wall & Goodlander and 2221 South Main in Fort Scott, and one for Hale Fireworks at 2523 South Main). The commission authorized the chairman to sign the permits after confirming required fees were paid.
NRP refunds/accounting correction: The chief financial officer reported distribution errors that produced a $33,341.37 shortfall owed to tax entities (cemeteries, city, and townships). Commissioners discussed options — adjusting the general/appraiser fund versus pursuing bond remedies — and voted to reimburse the owed amounts from the appraiser’s fund. The motion carried by voice vote.
Most items were approved by voice vote; the commission did not indicate any dissenting recorded roll‑call results in the meeting transcript.
