The Mansfield Select Board handled a slate of routine and administrative matters on Oct. 2, approving committee appointments, payroll warrants, a commemorative marker and a solicitation to hire special counsel for a personnel matter.
Appointments: The board interviewed Cara Desroches for a vacancy on Keep Mansfield Beautiful; members noted her volunteer experience and support for beautification projects and unanimously appointed her to an unexpired term through Dec. 31, 2025. The board also interviewed Victoria Balmonk (an architect by training) for the Municipal Building Committee and unanimously appointed her to an unexpired term ending Dec. 31, 2026.
Commemorative marker: The board unanimously approved a request from Jamie Bailey of Nova Scotia for a marker at the East Common flagpole; members discussed prior donations of a flagpole and agreed a plaque would be appropriate.
Special counsel solicitation: On a personnel recommendation, members debated procedure, procurement exemptions and price parameters for hiring outside counsel. The board voted to solicit proposals for special counsel to handle an HR matter and to report back to the Select Board for approval; members asked that proposed firms run conflict checks and return pricing for consideration.
Warrants and consent agenda: The Select Board approved the consent agenda and a series of payroll and vendor warrants for town and school payrolls and deductions; all motions carried with recorded yeas, and a small number of abstentions noted on school payroll votes where members declared conflicts or abstentions.
Other business: Members agreed to place a request from the Norwood Board of Selectmen about supporting Norwood Hospital on a future agenda.
