Rob McDonald, chair of Mansfield—9s 250th Celebration Committee, gave the Select Board an overview of planned events and fundraising progress on Sept. 18. The committee is prioritizing "quality rather than quantity," with plans that include a parade on May 17, a June event proposed at the town airport (June 14 tentative), a multi-day incorporation celebration in August and a gala as a capstone event.
McDonald said the committee is pursuing sponsorships and merchandising to support programming and is recruiting community groups to host related events. "If the historical society wants to open up the Jenny Copeland House for a weekend, that's what we're looking for," McDonald said.
The board then introduced lead sponsors. John Gonett of BayCoast Bank said the bank would be the lead sponsor; in the public remarks he referenced a figure given on the record as "$2,020,000" while the committee also announced a $17,500 sponsorship from Relief Alternatives. The committee described the combined sponsorships as providing meaningful seed money for parade and incorporation-weekend programming. The committee is selling pins, shirts and other merchandise at the farmers market and on the town website.
